History
Sensei Troy Ashbaugh was born in 1966 in Hamilton Ontario. He started training Goju Ryu Karate in 1987.
In 1989 he started training in Shorinji Ryu Karate.
In 1991 he met Hanshi Barry Lane and started training under him in the Wado Kai system. Hanshi Lane was a senior Black Belt and Wado Kai Instructor directly under Master Masaru Shintani. During his training with Hanshi Lane, Sensei Ashbaugh had the privilege of training with Master Shintani in both Karate and Shindo. Sensei Ashbaugh was graded to his 1st Dan and awarded Instructor Certificates by Hanshi Lane and Master Shintani in 1992.
Caledonia Martial Arts Academy was opened in December of 2002. Sensei Ashbaugh teaches the Wado Kai system as it was taught to him. At Caledonia Martial Arts the training regiment and difficulty is the same as from Hanshi Lane and Master Shintani. In 2017 Sensei Ashbaugh graded to his 7th Dan before Hanshi Lane.
